How do I book an appointment?

All of our bookings are done through the Jane application. Please follow one of the links provided or click here to bring yourself to Jane App.

While no one can guarantee that information will never be leaked, we use Jane App to store all client health records electronically. Jane App uses the same level of encryption that top Canadian banks use, and all data on Jane is stored on Canadian servers. At Unyielding Health & Wellness, we take pride in ensuring we use the most up-to-date technologies and adhere to the most robust cybersecurity requirements to do the most we are able to to ensure client confidentiality.

All service providers at Unyielding Health & Wellness provide both in-person and telehealth services. We currently offer in-person counselling and online counselling in Kelowna and the Okanagan. If you would like to receive either in-person and/or telehealth services, please indicate so in your intake form, book an in-person or online session through Jane App, or contact us directly.

At Unyielding Health & Wellness, we aspire to help members of our community increase their health span and quality of life. Having said that, we recognize that life does happen and some things demand our attention in short notice. Keeping in mind that when there is a cancellation in short notice that does not ultimately get filled, that spot is then time that could have gone towards making another person’s life better in some way, as well as our staff being under increased demand to rework schedules and their incomes potentially being affected as a result. Because of these considerations, at Unyielding Health & Wellness we implement a cancellation policy that we consider simple and fair for everyone involved:

Cancellations inside of and including 24 hours will be charged for their full session, regardless of if the slot ends up getting filled by another individual.

At Unyielding Health & Wellness, we recognize the basic humanity inherent in each of us, and as part of that there will undoubtedly be times when one of our staff or services offered is not to your satisfaction. Please email info@unyieldinghealthwellness.ca with your concern and we will ensure that it is addressed promptly, and follow up with how we may remedy the client-practitioner and/or client-clinic relationship going forward.

Yes, there is free on-street parking along Dickson Avenue, Dayton Street, Dolphin Avenue, and Kirschner Road. Echo Parkade offers free 3-hour parking for visitors of Unyielding Health & Wellness. If you have any questions about parking, please contact us.

Currently we only employ one therapist, however if you would like to change therapists, please inform our counsellor as he has several references to other top counsellors in the Kelowna & Okanagan areas he can provide.

This question is asked so often that we wrote a blog post all about it; you can read our answer in full here. We wrote this because it’s an important question that we wish we could answer for you! However, it really depends on the person and the situation they find themselves in. Generally, the best approach will be to experiment and see for yourself. You might only feel the need to come a handful of times, or realize that you are getting significant benefit and are happy to come dozens of times!

Fees & Insurance

Are fees for services negotiable?

At Unyielding Health & Wellness, we aim to employ a selection of practitioners of varying skill sets and knowledge bases, and are aware of current market values for the services we offer. We dynamically adjust the pricing of our clinicians based on their skillset, knowledge base, career history, certifications, and their own individual determination of how much their time is worth. To that end, our prices are non-negotiable. We keep close eyes on the current pricing for our various services and aim to provide services as economically as possible, while also ensuring we attract and retain high quality talent to our team.

We accept Visa, Visa Debit, MasterCard, Debit Mastercard, American Express, Discover, Apple Pay, Google Pay, e-transfer, and cash.

You do not need insurance to access our health and wellness services. However, we will always advocate for clients to obtain it prior to their sessions, as the investment can pay off incredibly well, plus clients get all of the other benefits that come with insurance. If you ever want your counsellor to help you with insurance queries, please ask. Chances are, you’re not the first to ask, and won’t be the last, and we would be happy to help you with that.

Psychotherapy and counselling are not covered by MSP, however they may be covered through a hospital program, mental health team, or through your workplace, school, personal, or family private insurance.

The hourly rate that counsellors charge in BC varies from between $140-$250 per hour. Factors such as experience, specializations, locations, and populations served influence these prices.

Therapies

At what point should I see a therapist?

If you are experiencing challenges regarding your emotions, relationships, and decisions too frequently, with too much intensity, or for too long of a duration, and you are beginning to think that you are running out of ideas or resources to slow it down or fix it, then seeing one of our Kelowna counsellors would be preferable to not for most people.

A counsellor helps a client learn to identify, manage, and/or integrate the various factors that contribute to the challenges they’re faced with. These factors can come from their thoughts and beliefs; the people and society around them; their DNA; or the houses, fields, and streams around them and any combination thereof.

It is extremely normal to be experiencing more than one unhealthy negative emotion at a time, in a way that is too frequent, intense, or prolonged, especially when struggling with life’s challenges. Your counsellor can help you identify and process all the emotions you may be experiencing. It is extremely common for someone to come in with emotional, relationship, and decision concerns, such as difficulties with communication, feelings of disconnection, or fear of a negative result such as rejection or uncertainty, and after a period of time come to realize that they are also experiencing one or more concerns with insecurity, self-doubt, irritability, sorrow, or even mistakes.

There are dozens of different modalities, and everyone is going to align with different ones over others, and that is okay. If you have never been to counselling before, reading up on some of the modalities is certainly beneficial, however we are biased in that we promote what’s called experiential learning. That means engaging in the process of counselling and how you feel during and after a session with a counsellor using a particular modality or mixture of modalities will be by far the best way to find the right one for you. Around 50% of the benefit people have in therapy can be attributed to the relationship you have with your counsellor anyhow; the modality they use is less important than you may think! Many of the modalities and therapies are akin to philosophies of how to “live the good life”. Each one highlights different aspects of human life to prioritize striving toward this goal. One can have tremendous benefit from aligning their natural tendencies or strengths with that of a philosophy that endorses those strengths, while others may greatly benefit more by a philosophy that plays to their weaknesses and fills in the gaps.

You will know when you are done when you find yourself naturally spending less and less time and energy on dealing with and managing emotions that come up every day. You will find yourself being satisfied with the emotional experiences that you contend with daily. Prior to counselling, these emotions would consume you at times, hinder your ability to perform towards your goals (small and large), and reduce your overall quality of life. At this same time, you may find yourself having less to say during sessions, or even begin to think that attending the sessions is becoming more of a chore or annoyance. You may also begin to naturally consider spacing out sessions from weekly or bi-weekly to a monthly or as-needed basis. This has been said many times throughout the website, but the feeling of confidence with distance or awareness of one’s own capabilities and understanding of responsibilities one must perform will come naturally, so one will find themselves not feeling the need for counselling as often.

Yes, it’s certainly still worthwhile to reach out to a counsellor. There is a good chance that we omitted some specific topics of concern to reduce over-crowding the web page, but we’re interested and able to help you work through them.

A few straightforward things you could do to prepare for your initial counselling session would be to:

  1. Begin with the end in mind. Your goals don’t have to be perfectly clear and can change throughout the counselling process; simply begin to think of the ideal outcome you’re hoping to get out of therapy.
  2. Begin to think of and recount some of the major times in your life where your challenge has gotten in the way, and/or how it affects you today or how it might in the future.
  3. Collect and organize some of the thoughts and beliefs you have about your challenge, and how and why these concerns are presenting in yourself.
  4. MOST IMPORTANTLY: Don’t worry about doing any of these if you don’t feel like it, or don’t know how to start. The most important thing is showing up for yourself. Come on in and your counsellor will be more than happy to help figure out some of these questions and answers with you. That is their role!
